Now in the fall, just in time for the wine harvest, it is wonderful to travel around, for example, Alsace, where we recently visited.
A cavalcade of cozy villages with beautiful half-timbered houses and blooming balcony boxes, storks & stork nests, lovely guesthouses and everything from small family vineyards that we personally prefer, to the larger, more well-known winemakers.
In six days you have time to see and experience a lot.
We visited places with a bloody & moving history such as the Musée du Viel Armand in Wattviller and a war museum from World War II near Kintzenheim but also very scenic places such as le Grand Ballon in Willer-sur-Thur & traveled over the mountains on the “Route des Crètes”.
A dairy that produces the delicious Munster cheese was visited and of course also various wine producers. We visited Domaine Gruss in the fabulously beautiful village of Eguisheim and tried fantastically good wines, as well as the slightly smaller wine producer Raymond Renck where we sat outside in the winery, tasted wonderful wines and walked around the vineyards and got to soak up the atmosphere there. At Karl Pfaffmann in Walsheim we also tried several of their wines. We serve many of these wines at our Gästis, so it was extra fun to come there and visit.
On the last day we hiked in the Weinlagen Wanderung Hiesige Bergenstrasse where, equipped with glasses hanging from leather straps, we tasted wines during the hike while enjoying the incredibly beautiful view and the hike itself.
You should go to Alsace to enjoy the fresh, lovely Alsatian wines, the small, personal wine producers, the charming and idyllic small villages, delicious food and the wonderful views in the mountain villages.
We traveled with Helena Thimansson, Thimans wines. They organize personal and charming wine tours that can be tailored in small groups where you have the opportunity to have your own wishes met. It is also through them that we buy a large part of Gästi's good wines. Helena is a trained tour guide & sommelier.
You probably won't find a more charming and fun tour guide!
